Alan sits beneath the pines
the softness of the needles soothes
the edges of his memories
his recent life on Earth
Alan breathes the scent and sighs
this resting place begins to pale
and fragments of the memories
solidify and reveal their worth

Alan finds himself in dreams
of others that he left behind
his image matches memories
he changes shape to match their need
Alan rarely says a word
his presence seems to fill the role
and any words he utters
emphasize and alter what they mean

Alan dreams he’s flying
above the darkened land
points of light

transcending the horizon
