Up In My Treehouse
(lyrics by Dan Susnara, written Nov 2, 1991, except chorus by Ken Clinger August 10, 1996)
verse 1
Up in my treehouse
high above the lawn
where tiny people water flowers
verse 2
That turn into trees (KC: turning into trees)
I turn on to something else
And share it with a friend
a looney tune sky day’s spent
(chorus)
Opening our eyes to innocence
Rediscover meanings we once knew
Leaving all the worries far below
giving into wonders clearly true
verse 3
Up in my treehouse
People look like ants
Though they’re the same way on the ground
verse 4
They scurry into cars
And snatch up things in herds
I’m quite content here with the birds
Just me and my girlfriend (KC: best friend)
I wonder where the birds went? (KC: ..clouds went?)

The Visitation
lyrics by Dan Susnara January 13, 1992
No one stays around here after dark
In secrecy lie oaths unbroken
A pale assembly sung to warn unchosen ones
The failing light will hide no one
No one stays around here when it’s dark
Far too much history unspoken
Nor to traverse forgotten fields
Where watches stop and iron bells peel
Dark haven full of eyes
Lost your hold on the past, decayed
See it wither, wither away.

Rainbows On
Music Dan Susnara & Ken Clinger (1997)
Lyrics Ken Clinger (1997)
rainbows on, images begin
waiting for the touch of sound to guide us onward
reaching for the ocean song
rising with the breeze we ride the skies in wonder
floating where we have always been
rainbows on, images begin
(break)
we are all we need to recognize
we are all we need to fly
rainbows leading on
wisdom from the sun as light
(break)
rainbows on, images combine
floating in the sea of sound that guides us forward
joining in the ocean song
riding with the breeze we roam the skies in wonder
thriving where we have always been
rainbows on, images continue
we are all we need to realize
we are all we need for joy
rainbows leading on
wisdom from the source as light

Lunar Children (1998)
backing - Dan Susnara
melody and lyrics - Ken Clinger
moonlight flowing o’er the land
drifting into dreams
lunar children come to earth
riding on moon beams
silently entering bedrooms
slipping into dreams
they whisper words of wonder
that we used to know
words we used to sing once long ago
gently take us by the hand
lunar children rise
lifting us leading us upward
floating in the skies
sweet moonlight wakens visions
seen with lunar sight
visions only known in lunar light
golden oceans on the moon
cities on the shore
sailing ships emanate music
never heard before
lunar children wave goodbye
in the morning light
whispering try to remember
what you’ve seen tonight.

time to show (ken clinger 1999)
light in the fa-shion of days when re-al-it-ty breaks down
some-thing is fla-shing but on-ly you no-tice it comes round
sit-ting a-lone at the top of the stairs
rea-ching for some-thing you’re on-ly a-ware that it’s
time to show, what we know is in-
side of the pa-ssion of ways that so-ci-e-ty’s head-bound
seg-ments are cra-shing but on-ly you no-tice the back-ground
fit-ting your thoughts to the size of the day be-
seeching for mo-ments they’ve ta-ken a-way, now it’s
time to go, where things still grow
(inst break)
con-stant-ly passing the thoughts of the a-ges become sound
qui-et-ly mass-ing their co-lors com-bine as they go ‘round
clo-sing your eyes to dis-trac-tions a-head
o-ther worlds whis-per-ing words ne-ver read
time to show, what we know
time to grow, fu-tures glow
(inst repeat and fade)

About
It’s about that time of the night
when things go together well
like ham in glove or hand in eggs
and there’s half the world to tell
that we don’t even go to sleep at night
these kinds of dreams don’t stop in morning light
high above
all the contrasting ways come together
high above
all the dimensions expand to one reality
hyper-real limitless means to feel
matter’s restricting lie
deeper dimensions reveals from
high above
all the conflicts relax in their pleasure
higher love
brings awareness of unity one reality
endless flight revealing true insight
earthbound results are surreal
trying to comprehend what is real
it’s about that side of the room
and i’m reflected in a vase
i change my shape by changing sides
your lies reflected on your face
and i can feel the floor move left to right
these kinds of rooms won’t pause for windless kites.

Wince Upon a Groovy (2009)
(lyrics by Dan Susnara & Ken Clinger
music and performance by Ken Clinger)
sitting in the park with my head in the clouds
I noticed blue sky for the first time
I began a groovy for what seemed to be months
tho I get confused how I got here
without arriving
on taxi or bobsled
and nary a pillow
to place under by head
and push 'round pretending
it's "Jaws" in the parlour
and it gets excitening
whenever there's lightning
sitting in a tree with my eyes to the sky
I noticed the clouds for the first time
the groovy continued for what feels to be years
and it seems I've always been here
without arriving
on zebra or saucer
and only daydreams
to float 'round my head
and drift 'round pretending
it's "Oz" in the attic
and I'm filled with wonder
whenever there's thunder

The Men Who Looked Like
(lyrics by Dan Susnara & Ken Clinger)
music & recording by Ken Clinger May 3, 2009
The man who looked like Joey Bishop
Well, he drinks too much and he pees in public
And he picked the wrong guy, punched out his lights
Who, he perceived, looked at his wife:
The man who looked like Barney Fyfe
The man who looked like Barney Don Knotts
Well, he wears a suit when he drives a tractor
And detectives watch his girlfriend nights
She’s out late with scary military types
Quote: Samo Hung and Wesley Snipes
The man who looked like Ringo Starr
He found a suitcase hidden in his car
Well, he learned the truth about Peter Best
Who wouldn’t sell his fate like all the rest
He lost the fame, but he passed the test
The man who looked like no one else
He hid in an attic, but broadcast his self
to the universe in a clever disguise
He told the truth, but made it sound like lies
Their minds rejected, but it showed in their eyes.

what is real and what is right
doubting memory, fading light
something lost, is something gained
can truth be found in this domain
imminence

confusion from all around
demanding trust in solid ground
what was certain now is gone
intuition now withdrawn
all is harsh, no empathy
trapped inside this density
resignation, giving in
